Stereotypes Of Luke Cage - 1412 Words
Luke Cage is a Marvel-Netflix series based on the comic book hero Luke Cage. The series is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is set in Harlem, New York. The show is about an ex-convict and fugitive named Carl Lucas, who uses the pseudonym Luke Cage after escaping prison because of an experiment gone wrong that left him with super-strength and bulletproof skin. It is made clear through the story that at one point Cottonmouth has seven million dollars in cash reserves, most of which is from ill-gotten gains. Cottonmouthââ¬â¢s cousin, Black Mariah, is also a part of this illicit business. Mariah is a local politician with a cor rupt undertone. She aids Cottonmouth financially and helps him build his fortune. However, the opposite is the case for Luke Cage and Pops. Luke is shown as a large black man with huge muscles and a baldhead who worked as a bodyguard, mercenary and bar tender. The stereotype he adheres to is a thug, heââ¬â¢s meant to be perceived as intimidating and dangerous because thatââ¬â¢s how society saw and sees black men.
